Born and raised in Spokane, Dr. Ellingsen graduated with highest honors from Washington State University and the University of Washington Medical School. He was elected to various honorary societies including Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha. Dr. Ellingsen obtained his ophthalmology training at Harvard University and the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. |
| Following his Residency, he was an instructor at Harvard Medical School while taking a Glaucoma Fellowship with Dr. Morton Grant. Dr. Ellingsen has done extensive research and published several articles in ophthalmological journals and has been a pioneer of non-penetrating glaucoma surgery in the United States. |
| Dr. Ellingsen’s interest in refractive surgery began in 1983 with radial
keratotomy and has continued since then. With the FDA approval of excimer laser surgery in 1996, he has gained extensive training and experience in this area.
With his daughter, he recently co-authored a prize-winning publication dealing with the natural course of adult myopia.
Dr. Ellingsen has had extensive surgical experience, having performed over 6,000 cataract surgeries, including small incision cataract surgery with foldable implants. In addition, he has performed over 4,000 refractive surgeries, more than 1,500 glaucoma surgeries, and in excess of 5,000 anterior segment laser surgeries. He has recently been an invited speaker at the New England Ophthalmological Society, the Nantucket Glaucoma Society, the Washington State Medical Society, and the American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery meetings. He is a member of various medical societies and is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist. Dr. Ellingsen is married, has three children, and is an enthusiastic outdoorsman and golfer. |
