Dear Medicare (including Medicare Advantage Plans and HMO's), Medicaid, and Tricare Patients,
As many of you have already heard, effective June 1, 2010, all US physicians who care for patients with these public health insurance plans, have endured an immediate 21.2% reduction in all payments. You may have already found that some local practices no longer accept Medicare. Some others have been limiting the number of new patients with public insurance plans. This cut will without a doubt make access to care much more difficult for patients with these insurance plans.
We at Spokane Eye Clinic have never limited care base on insurance. We do not wish to do so in the future. Unfortunately, some form of rationing of care will likely be necessary in order for physician practices to survive. To put it plainly, we cannot afford to absorb such an onerous cut in reimbursement and continue to provide the same level of service to our patients.
Please contact your senators and representatives immediately and tell them that you do not want your access to care diminished. Specifically, tell them to "fix the flawed SGR physician payment system now."
Thank you,
The Physicians of the Spokane Eye Clinic
