But My Child Missed Several Letters, How Can They Be 20/20?
By: Jeffrey Colburn, MD
Here is a tip for vision checks for both you and your child. When checking vision on the eye chart, the eye doctor or their assistant will give credit for the smallest sized line of letters or symbols that you get at least half or more of the letters correct on. So if they say that you or your child has 20/20 vision, you don’t need to worry about some missed letters on that line. Also, it is good to know that although we typically talk of 20/20 as being perfect & normal vision, that particularly for young children it can also be in the normal range to measure slightly below that. Some people can measure better than 20/20 even without glasses.
